Ken Whisenhunt Would Have Liked To Have Resolution For QB Position 'Years Ago'

Perhaps the biggest storyline of the offseason for the Arizona Cardinals is in regards to who will win the starting quarterback job. Kevin Kolb and John Skelton are taking turns practicing with the first team players at minicamp as Ken Whisenhunt and the rest of the coaching staff try and decide who their guy will be.

After the Cardinals' morning practice on Wednesday, Whisenhunt had some choice words in regards to the current quarterback conundrum. He would have liked to have had the situation solved, "two years ago."

Ever since Kurt Warner retired, the Cardinals have been left with a gaping hole at arguably the most important position on their roster. Last season, they traded for Kevin Kolb in the hopes that he could be their new leader. So far, that hasn't panned out. Kolb struggled mightily in his first year in Arizona.

Now, after Skelton played decently in 2011 filling in for the injured Kolb, we have a duel in the desert to see who will be the starter in 2012.

When asked if he would like to have a quicker resolution to the competition between Kolb and Skelton, Whisenhunt was rather blunt:

"If it was up to me, I'd prefer we had a quarterback resolution two years ago. But obviously that hasn't happened. When it happens, it happens. They're going to have to go through different tests. The next stage is going to be able to do that in training camp and being able to do that in preseason games."

Basically what Whiz is saying is that if there was a clear winner, the starting QB would have been chosen already. The competition is either really close and both men look ripe for the job or neither of them look ready to take the reins.

"It usually works out, and I'm not just talking about the quarterback position, that somebody distinguishes themself in that period. When it happens, it happens. You got to let this competition play out honestly. It's got to be a fair competition. I'm excited to see how it goes."

Excited? Or worried? We will find out this season which one is true.
