Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb's 2012 season officially came to an end on Wednesday when the six-year pro was placed on injured reserve. Kolb was slow to return from a rib injury that has held him out of action since Week 6, and when his recovery plateaued, the team decided to shelve him for the remainder of the season.
This isn't the first time the injury-prone Kolb has missed significant time in Arizona. The 28-year-old has only played in 15 of a possible 32 games because of injuries to his toe and foot, a serious concussion, and now, his ribs.
Given Kolb's lengthy injury history, it's unlikely that the Cardinals will pay him the $9 million (plus a $2 million roster bonus) that they owe him next year. Barring a renegotiation of his contract, Kolb might have to play elsewhere, but the veteran signal caller would like to stay in Arizona if possible.
"I like the way this locker room is, the kind of guys in here. Obviously we have to make some adjustments. We all know that. My focus is being part of this team for a long time and getting this place back to an elite level. ... People say certain things about this organization here, but my heart and soul is with this organization and I don't want that to change. I really don't."
The Kolb-less Cardinals play host to the Detroit Lions on Sunday with their sights set on snapping a losing streak that has reached nine games. Kickoff is slated for 2:05 p.m. MT and the game will be televised on FOX.
