The Arizona Cardinals newest addition, quarterback Brian Hoyer, could feel right at home under center should he get the opportunity to see the field.
Hoyer spent the last three weeks as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers under former Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley before being waived last Saturday. After joining the Cardinals and former Steelers assistant Ken Whisenhunt, the 27-year-old Michigan State alum sees similarities in the way the two teams' systems work.
Via the Cardinals official website:
"You can see the similarities in how the meetings are run and things like that. I was only there for three weeks learning that system and I was just starting to get it. Now you come here where there are similarities but there are different tweaks and things like that, so I'm going to be busy this week even when I leave this building trying to figure it out and translate it in my head."
Hoyer was cut by the New England Patriots in training camp and sat idle until he got a call from the Steelers on Nov. 20 after injuries to Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich left the team in a bind at quarterback. He joins the Cardinals under similar circumstances, as Kevin Kolb was place on the injured reserve on Wednesday and John Skelton and Ryan Lindley have struggled.
Hoyer is undergoing a crash course to learn the Cardinals offense as quickly as possible. It is unlikely he'll be ready to play on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
