Beanie Wells injury update: Cardinals RB activated from IR

The Cardinals are hoping for a spark from newly-activated running back Beanie Wells.

Matt Kartozian-US PRESSWIRE

The Arizona Cardinals have activated running back Beanie Wells off the injured reserve/designated for return list, according to the team. Arizona released linebacker Jamaal Westerman to make room on the roster.

Wells has been out of action with a toe injury since Week 3. He struggled to gain ground at the start of the season, picking up just 76 yards on 29 carries. Wells was coming off the best season of his four-year career in 2011, when he rushed for 1,047 yards and 10 touchdowns on 245 carries.

Arizona is desperately in need of something positive on offense, as it is 31st in the NFL in total yards. That includes ranking 30th in rushing yards per game.

The Cardinals are looking for Wells to finally put them over the top and break a six-game losing streak. Arizona will face the team that started its current six-game losing streak back in Week 5 when the Cardinals take on he St. Louis Rams in Week 12.
