Ryan Taylor fined for illegal block of Cardinals' Rashad Johnson appealing fine

Green Bay Packers tight end Ryan Taylor has been fined $21,000 by the NFL for his block on Arizona Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson on Nov. 4, according to ESPNWisconsin.com.

The block, which came on a 28-yard punt return by Randall Cobb early in the first quarter of the 31-17 win by Green Bay, was deemed as an "illegal blindside" block, but was not flagged by the officials on the field. Taylor has decided to appeal the league's decision and hopes that the fine will be "overturned" completely. The $21,000 fine is roughly 5 percent of the second-year pro's $465,000 base salary for this season.

Taylor felt that the block was clean and hinted at distaste for the league's rule in comments he made to ESPWisconsin.com.

"You know what? I don't think I can change the way I play. Because the guy had an angle on the ball, he would've made the tackle had I not blocked him," Taylor said. "I'm not going to just stop blocking guys who can make tackles on our ballcarrier because of an arbitrary rule."

Packers' head coach Mike McCarthy declined comment on the league's decision to fine Taylor.
