Ryan Williams injury: Cardinals RB placed on IR; Crezdon Butler re-signed

The Cardinals have placed running back Ryan Williams on injured reserved and re-signed cornerback Crezdon Butler.

Greg M. Cooper-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

In news that many were expecting, the Arizona Cardinals have placed running back Ryan Williams on injured reserve, ending his season. Williams sustained an injury to his left shoulder on Thursday, and will have surgery on Tuesday to repair the damage.

The Cardinals re-signed cornerback Crezdon Butler to fill the vacant roster spot. Butler has appeared in two games this season for the Washington Redskins after Arizona released him in their final round of preseason cuts. Butler, who will wear No. 32, logged one game with the Cardinals last season before going down with an ankle injury and spending the rest of the year on injured reserve.

Williams' injury may force the team to look for running back options on the free agent market. Starter Beanie Wells is suffering from turf toe and won't be eligible to return until Nov. 25. The Cardinals may be looking at bringing back former player Tim Hightower to fill the void. He was released by the Washington Redskins earlier this year.
