NFL Week 7, Arizona Cardinals: John Skelton happy to start, wasn't fond of watching from the sidelines

After losing starting quarterback Kevin Kolb to a series of injuries, Arizona Cardinals quarterback John Skelton finds himself back under center for the first time since the team's Sept. 9 season opener. And while he's not happy that it took an injury to get his starting job back, he wasn't particularly into standing on the sidelines and watching his teammates play either.

"It's frustrating, more than anything," Skelton said Wednesday. "Having put in all the hard work in the past years and the offseason, and then getting named the starter the way I was and then to kind of have it disappear, taken away from you that early, it's just unfortunate."

Skelton was named the starter heading into Week 1, but suffered a badly sprained ankle and hasn't started since Sept. 9. With Kolb out for several weeks with a rib injury, Skelton says he's ready to reclaim his starting role, despite a shaky performance in relief of Kolb last Sunday. Skelton completed only 2-of-10 passes for 45 yards, and threw an interception in the Cardinals 19-16 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills.

The Cardinals' offensive line has allowed a whopping 28 sacks this season, -- the most in the NFL -- but Skelton believes there's a way to curb the number of sacks the team is giving up.

He told Arizonasports.com:

"A lot of it is getting the ball out of your hands quick," Skelton said. "There's times where you're going to get sacked and there's nothing you can do about it, and there's other times when you can get the ball out of your hand quick, you can throw it away, you can flee the pocket sooner."

Kickoff for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings is scheduled for 10 a.m. PT at Mall of America Field. The game will be televised on FOX.
