Rookie TE Rob Housler Inactive During Practice Wednesday With Groin Injury

Arizona Cardinals tight end Rob Housler did not practice on Wednesday due to a groin injury, which we originally reported on Tuesday. The rookie seems to have tweaked something during Tuesday's practice and was given the day off. Housler told SB Nation Arizona after Wednesday morning's practice that treatment and extra rehab was "precautionary".

The team has not yet addressed the injury. It does not look serious and Housler should be back at some point in the near future. He was on the lower field working with training staff on a series of exercises that involved stretching a large rubber band-like device.

Housler, the Cardinals' third-round pick from the 2011 NFL Draft, has been playing well so far in training camp. He may have gotten a shot at the starting job had it not been for the acquisition of former Arizona State Sun Devil and Baltimore Raven Todd Heap. Heap will start this season, but the Cardinals will likely use Housler as well in various situations this year.

The acquisition of Heap should help Housler's development as the rookie watches and learns from the ten-year veteran. Together, the duo gives the Cardinals some receiving flexibility at tight end that the team hasn't had in recent years.
