NFL Playoff Scenarios: Loss To Cincinnati Officially Eliminates Cardinals

To say that it was a season of ups and downs for the Arizona Cardinals would be something of an understatement. The first half of the season displayed the Cardinals as one of the worst and most offensively inept teams in the NFL. The second half of the season featured the Arizona squad reeling off a four-game winning streak and winning six out of seven as they made an improbable run at a playoff berth.

All of those postseason hopes crashed and burned on Sunday, however. With a 23-16 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cardinals were officially eliminated from the postseason. They can take some solace in the fact that they can beat the Seattle Seahawks in the final week of the season to finish the season in second place in the NFC West. It would be at least some measure of redemption given where it looked like they'd end up at the start of the season.

The Cardinals showed just enough in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game to make fans think that they'd pull off a late comeback once again and stay in the hunt, but the awakening of John Skelton and his offense proved to be too little, too late.
