The Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers were just getting underway when both teams suffered blows. Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb was taken to the locker room with a head injury. His return is reported as "questionable". The 49ers lost starting LT Joe Staley with a head injury as well. He won't return.
Kolb apparently was kneed in the back of the head by 49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks on a third down play in the first quarter. The play resulted in a fumble but the Cardinals recovered the ball.
Backup quarterback John Skelton entered the game in place of Kolb and went three and out on his first possession. Kolb was 1-1 for two yards before the injury which occurred on the Cardinals first offensive possession.
The Cardinals went 3-1 with Skelton starting in place of Kolb while he was sidelined with a foot injury. The only loss came against the 49ers.
