Derek Anderson Rant Mocked By Dwight Howard And Ken Whisenhunt

It's really no surprise to see Dwight Howard (comic, Orlando Magic) mocking Derek Anderson's now infamous Monday Night Football press conference rant. It's not like Dwight is the only one mocking DA for losing his cool at what was a perfectly normal, albeit aggressively asked, line of questioning from Kent Somers.

↵

That's fine. That's fine. That's fine. That's fine. It's not funny. I'm not laughing about it.

↵

But Dwight's not the only one poking fun at Anderson. Phoenix Suns Coach Alvin Gentry began his media availability after practice yesterday with a joke about not smiling. It was normal good humor from a coach who went on to openly acknowledge his team's last-place defense with honesty, humility and a no-excuses attitude.

↵

Meanwhile, Cardinals Coach Ken Whisenhunt continues to bury his head in the sand about all things related to his team's six-game losing streak and 3-8 record, including the tirade from his hand-picked starting quarterback.

↵

Whisenhunt not only has stated that Anderson will keep his starting job, but he claimed on Tuesday to not even have seen the clips of Derek's blowup.

↵

"I didn't see it, I still haven't seen it. I've obviously heard about it," Whisenhunt said.

↵

That's the ultimate mockery to claim to have not seen the biggest news item regarding his team. And if he is being honest, what does it say that he would willfully avoid watching 30 seconds of complete and utter public meltdown by the Cardinal's most visible player?

↵

When he's staked the entire season on Derek Freaking Anderson, Whisenhunt probably feels like he has no choice but to continue to pretend that everything is going to be alright. If he could ignore Anderson's track record of inefficient play and lack of talent at the QB position before naming him the starter, it's probably not hard to ignore a little public embarrassment that reflects directly on the coach and entire organization.

The arrogance in the NFL knows no bounds and certainly will continue as long as fans flock to the game. I don't find it funny when key players are allowed to insult fans with no penalty, but from a league that cares so little about the health and safety of its players, this is just a minor blip that will be easily ignored.
