The Arizona State Sun Devils pulled off a bit of a surprise on Sunday night, defeating the Colorado Buffaloes by a score of 65-56. Colorado raced out to an early lead, and it seemed they had their eyes set on revenge following a wild loss in Tucson earlier in the week.
Instead of giving in, the Sun Devils came together in the second half and put together one of their finest defensive performances of the year as they improved to 13-2 overall.
ASU trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half, but they managed to trim the deficit to three by halftime. They went on a big rally midway through the second half, led by big man Jordan Bachynski's defensive efforts. Bachynski blocked nine shots on the night, which propelled the Devils into numerous fast break opportunities. The seven-footer also added 16 points and seven rebounds. Carrick Felix led ASU in scoring with 20 points.
Colorado trailed by as many as 11 points with four minutes on the clock, although they cut it to a six-point deficit with 1:52 remaining. The Sun Devils came up with multiple stops, though, and cruised through the final minute to pick up their second conference win. It seemed as the Buffaloes ran out of energy late in the second half.
Next up for Arizona State is a road trip to take on the Oregon schools. They'll face Oregon State on Thursday night at 11:30 p.m. ET.
