2012 BMW Championship: Rory McIlroy Tied For The 1st Round Lead

The first round of the 2012 BMW Championship is in the books and it's crowded atop the leaderboard. Four players are tied for the lead after the first round including current FedEx Cup leader Rory McIlroy.

McIlory is tied for the lead at 8-under with Webb Simpson, Bo Van Pelt and Graham DeLaet. Tiger Woods is tied with Vijay Singh for fifth place, one-stroke back of the leaders. Woods birdied nine holes Thursday, but dropped two strokes with two bogeys. He entered the BMW Championship in third place in the FedEx standings.

The first round was not as kind to Phil Mickelson who is tied for 29th place at 3-under after the first day. Mickelson started his first round on the back nine and struggled early with bogeys on three of his first nine holes. He closed strong, however, with a 3-under 36 on his final nine, including back-to-back-birdies to finish his round.

The 2012 BMW Championship will continue Friday with second round action.
