The Arizona Cardinals and third-year linebacker Daryl Washington have agreed to a contract extension, keeping him with the team through the 2017 season, according to AZCardinals.com.

The extension makes no changes to the upcoming season, though shows the Cardinals' desire to build around a player of his caliber. It also keeps Washington from becoming a unrestricted free agent after his rookie contract expires after the 2013 season.

This extension could also have an affect on other linebackers around the league, such as the 49ers NaVorro Bowman, who had a similar deal to Washington as a fellow 2010 draft pick with a deal until 2013.

Washington, the 25-year old out of Texas Christian University, has 185 tackles, one forced fumbled and three interceptions in his three-year tenure with the Cardinals.
