Maria Sharapova used a rain delay to regroup after dropping her first set against France's Marion Bartoli, and on Wednesday won the next two sets, advancing to the semifinals of the 2012 U.S. Open. The No. 3 seed Russian lost to Bartoli at Arthur Ashe Stadium in the first set 3-6 but powered back once the rain let up to win, 6-3, 6-4.
Sharapova used 10 aces against the No. 11 seed Bartoli to capture the match despite having 11 double faults on the day.
This season, Sharapova is now 12-0 in matches decided in three sets. She will face top-seeded Victoria Azarenka in the semifinals after Azarenka defeated defending U.S. Open champion Samantha Stosur on Tuesday.
Azarenka and Sharapova have a bit of history going into the match. Azarenka defeated Sharapova, 6-3, 6-0, at the Australian Open earlier this year to take her first Grand Slam win of her career.
