This season in the NFL is already shaping up to be a crazy one with games going either way. Luckily, the chances of that happening with the real refs back in uniform have decreased exponentially. Here are your picks against the spread for the week 4 Sunday afternoon and night games. As always, the lines are from Bovada.
Arizona Cardinals -6 vs. Miami Dolphins
It seems that Vegas is finally starting to cut the Arizona Cardinals and their 3-0 record some slack. Although they haven't been perfect this season, beating the Eagles last week in convincing fashion was no small feat. Reggie Bush sounds like he will play, but he is banged up. The Dolphins feature a rookie quarterback against a terrifyingly good defense. I like the Cardinals in a bigger than six point blowout in this one. But, then again, be weary of them playing down to their competition as they always seem to do.
Denver Broncos -7 vs. Oakland Raiders
The AFC West may not be as exciting as it once was, but with Peyton Manning now in the division, it is always going to be a show. The Broncos have struggled of late, but against a less than mediocre Raiders team, I think they edge this one out. The question is, can they do it by at least seven points to cover the spread? Since they are at home, they have an advantage, so I would take the Broncos if a gun was forced to my head. To me, this is a game I would avoid.
Cincinnati Bengals -3 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Bengals are favored on the road this week and for good reason. The Jaguars still have Blaine Gabbert at quarterback, even if superstar running back Maurice Jones-Drew seems to be at full speed already after his holdout. Three points isn't too much to give up when your defense is as underrated as the Bengals'. Take Cincy, minus the points.
New Orleans Saints +8 vs. Green Bay Packers
Did anyone expect the Packers to start their season at 1-2? How about the Saints at a staggering 0-3? Yeah, neither did I. Still, both of these high flying offenses have been grounded thus far and this game, despite what most believe, might not be as high scoring as it would have been in 2011. I like the Packers to win this game, but even though the Saints have struggled, I am not going to give them eight points. The Packers scored just 12 points against the Seahawks in their last game and their offensive line looked awful. Take the Saints and the points in this one.
Washington Redskins +3 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Josh Freeman hasn't played up to expectations yet this season, but at home against a young team that just lost two of it's best pass rushers for the season, I think they find a way to pull this one out. Vincent Jackson could be due for another monster game and RG3 could find himself in trouble against the Bucs' versatile four man front. Take the Bucs minus the points in this one.
New York Giants +1 vs. Philadelphia Eagles
This, for me, is not even that difficult of a choice. The Eagles' offensive line is terrible and the Giants have one of the best pass rushing defenses in the league. It really doesn't matter that they are on the road, as we saw them absolutely shred the Panthers last Thursday night. Since this is almost a pick 'em game, I am definitely taking the G-Men on the road this time around.
