The 2012 Ryder Cup kicks off in Medinah, Ill. on Friday and the state of Arizona is well-represented on Team USA. Jim Furyk from the University of Arizona and Phil Mickelson from Arizona State University both made the squad.

Furyk is playing in his eighth-straight Ryder Cup. He has struggled in the event, going 8-15-4 and winning just 37 percent of potential points for the American team. Furyk made the roster via a captain's pick from Davis Love, III.

Mickelson does Furyk one better by appearing in his ninth-straight Ryder Cup. He has also not fared well, posting an 11-17-6 record overall while grabbing just 41 percent of points. Mickelson qualified via the points list.

The United States will be looking to recapture the cup after losing to the Europeans in 2010. The American team last won in 2008 when the competition took place at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, KY.
