The Arizona Diamondbacks close out their final roadie of the season with a trip up to San Francisco to face the NL West Champion Giants. Post-season hopes for Arizona fans are fading into the darkness as the D-backs sit 5.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot with nine games remaining. Looming close is the team's 'tragic number' of four losses until being officially eliminated from playoff contention.
TV Schedule & Probable Pitchers
Tuesday's game starts at 7:15 p.m. PT and can be seen on Fox Sports Arizona. Taking the hill for the Giants is the up-and-down Tim Lincecum versus Tyler Skaggs for the D-backs. Lincecum was scratched from his last start on Saturday for no reason other than rest before the playoffs. Rookie Tyler Skaggs was initially listed as Arizona's starter; however, he's been scratched and replaced by Josh Collmenter. The last start for Collmenter was on July 27th. He has appeared in relief in between stars.
Wednesday's contest begins at 7:15 p.m. PT and will be aired on Fox Sports Arizona. The Diamondbacks are pulling for starting pitcher Wade Miley to be NL Rookie of the Year. Miley's record is 16-10 with 3.25 ERA. Against SF this season, he has a 1-1 record with a 2.45 ERA. Countering Miley is Matt Cain. Cain has had an excellent year for the Giants. He is currently 15-5 with a 2.86 ERA.
The final game of the season between the Giants and D-Backs is a high noon-ish affair. Thursday's game begins at 12:45 p.m. PT and will be aired on Fox Sports Arizona. Barry Zito starts for the Giants. Zito, as has been chronicled all season, is a shade of his former self. As of late, he's beginning to be the Barry Zito of yore. In his last three starts, Zito is 3-0 with a stellar 1.45 ERA. Patrick Corbin will start for Arizona. In his career against SF, Corbin is 2-0 with a 3.15 ERA and 15 strikeouts.
