John Skeleton Injury: Quarterback Has Ankle Sprain, Could Play Week 2

Arizona Cardinals quarterback John Skelton has a low ankle sprain and may be able to play in Week 2, CBS Sports reports. Skelton went down with an ankle injury late in the fourth quarter of the Cardinals' victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Some reports had indicated that Skelton had suffered a high-ankle sprain, an injury known to plague NFL players for extended periods of time. Arizona head coach Ken Whisenhunt indicated Monday that that was not the case, it was a low ankle sprain, and Skelton could be back sooner rather than later.

The Cardinals were losing when Skelton left the game, and backup quarterback Kevin Kolb was able to lead the team to a late victory. If those circumstances led to any speculation that Kolb might make away with the starting job, Whisenhunt was quick to cut things off. "I don't even know why that would be a question," Whisenhunt said in response to a question about whether Skelton would be the starter when he returned.

Skelton finished Week 1 14-for-28 for 149 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. The Cardinals travel to New England to face the Patriots in Week 2.
