The Arizona Diamondbacks dug themselves a deeper deficit in the NL West west standings this past weekend following a three game sweep at the hands of the San Diego Padres.
The D-backs (64-64) now sit seven games back of the San Francisco Giants (71-57) in the divisional standings and five games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (69-59) heading into the last week of August.
Arizona also dropped to 6.5 games behind the second wild card entry. The Atlanta Braves, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Pirates all sit ahead of the D-backs in the wild card standings by at least 4.5 games.
Things don't get much easier in the early going this week with the Cincinnati Reds coming to town for a three-game set. After that, Arizona heads to Los Angeles for four games against the Dodgers to begin a September that's almost entirely consumed with divisional opponents (23 of the 26 games against the NL West).
