Arizona Diamondbacks Call Up Pitcher Sam Demel

The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled reliever Sam Demel from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

Demel came to the Diamondbacks in 2010 from a trade with the Oakland Athletics for Conor Jackson. He made the team in 2010 and 2011, putting up career numbers of 4-3 with a 4.88 ERA through 62.2 innings pitched.

He has spent the entire year with Reno, posting a 1-4 record with a 4.60 ERA. He has shown quite a bit of a power arm, striking out 66 batters for an average of 10.13 strikeouts per nine innings pitched. However he also has allowed 11 home runs in just 58.2 innings pitched this year.

Demel has been pretty good in August, posting a 2.79 ERA with 14 strikeouts through just 9.2 innings pitched. He will wear the number 38 for the Diamondbacks.
