Olympics Medal Count: Team USA Takes Overall Lead On Thursday

Team USA has trailed China in the medal count throughout most of the 2012 Olympics until this point, but that finally changed on Thursday. Following a great showing from a couple swimmers, gymnasts and even a gold medal in Judo, the US now holds a three medal lead over China.

The United States now have a total of 37 medals after day six. 18 of those medals are gold, nine are silver and 10 are bronze.

China sits in second place with 34. They also have 18 gold medals, along with 11 silver and five bronze. Japan sits in a distant third place with 19 total medals, 11 of which are bronze. They have won just two golds.
