Diamondbacks vs. Cardinals: Trevor Cahill Looks To Avoid Sweep

The Arizona Diamondbacks are running out of time to make a run in the National League West. The club fell below .500 with another loss on Wednesday night, and will now turn to Trevor Cahill to avoid suffering a series sweep at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Cahill has been solid on the mound lately, going 1-1 with a 3.79 ERA in his last three starts. He's made just one start in his career against the Cardinals, giving up two runs over six innings while striking out seven.

St. Louis will counter with Kyle Lohse on the mound. Lohse has been one of the winningest pitchers in baseball this season, featuring an impressive record of 12-2. He's allowed one run in 13 innings over two starts in the month of August, good for a 0.69 ERA.

There is some good news for the D-backs this evening: Lohse has not pitched well against them throughout his career. He has a 5.03 ERA over the course of 53.2 innings, striking out just 26 batters in that span.

First pitch from Busch Stadium is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. PT.
