Takashi Saito Placed On 15-Day DL; D'Backs Recall Mike Zagurski

Days after Mike Zagurski was designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team says it has recalled the left-handed pitcher after placing right hander Takashi Saito on the 15-day disabled list.

The Diamondbacks' Twitter account reported Tuesday that Saito is suffering from a strained left hamstring. The team had sent Zagurski to the minors following an ugly outing in which the relief pitcher gave up four earned runs in the ninth inning against Washington in a 9-1 loss for Arizona.

Zagurski, who was signed off waivers from the Phillies in September 2011, has a 6.18 ERA in 32 games with the Diamondbacks.

Meanwhile, Saito heads to the DL with a 6.14 ERA on the season through 7.1 innings pitched in 10 appearances. The 42-year-old's experience of 333.1 innings pitched over six-plus MLB seasons will be missed as Arizona (58-57) attempts to stay about the .500 mark.
