Nationals' Success Tied To Diamondbacks

The Washington Nationals have so far made quick work of the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix. They have one game left to play on Sunday and have the opportunity to sweep the D-backs at home. The Nationals sit with the National League's best record and a team full of talent.

That success has an Arizona connection.

The Nationals' general manager is a guy that Diamondbacks fans might remember. That man is Mike Rizzo and from 2000-2006 he was the Director of Scouting for Arizona. He left to take over the GM job in Washington and has steadily and patiently put together a team that is competitive now and built to do so for the future.

Rizzo, before he left, helped put together a very talented Arizona farm system that was promptly gutted to make a few trades.

Now he has talent like Ryan Zimmerman, Michael Morse, Stephen Strasburg and more. Just think about that. While he may never have been GM here, we can look back and see why what Washington is doing should not come to a surprise.
