Olympics 2012 Medal Count: United States At The Top Of The Charts

The penultimate day of the 2012 Olympic Games in London is in the books after Saturday's gold medal events have wrapped up. The United States added eight medals in total, including three gold medals, to their medal count on Saturday and have jumped out to a huge lead over China heading into Sunday.

The U.S. has ensured that they will finish the games with the most total medals and the most gold medals at the Summer Games. The only question that now remains is what the final number will be in each category.

Here is how the top five looks in the latest medal count:

  1. United States, 102 (44 gold, 29 silver, 29 bronze)
  2. China, 87 (38, 27, 22)
  3. Russia, 78 (21, 25, 32)
  4. Great Britain, 62 (28, 15, 19)
  5. Germany, 44 (11, 19, 14)
