2012 Olympics Medal Count: United States Soars Past China

The United States trailed China in the overall and gold medal count for most of the last week, but big days on Thursday and Friday have given the U.S. a comfortable lead.

Thanks to strong showings in women's water polo, track & field events and volleyball, Team USA now has a total of 94 medals. 41 of them are gold, 26 are silver and 27 are bronze, and there are still plenty of medals up for grabs.

China has a comfortable lead in second place. They've won 81 medals in all, including 37 golds and 25 silver. Russia sits in third with 63 medals (15 G, 21 S, 27 B), while host nation Great Britain is in fourth with 57 total medals and 25 gold.

You can find a complete look at the medal standings through SI.com.
