Alyssa Anderson is probably one of those gold medalists you won't remember from these Olympic games, but she'll have one. Anderson was part of the 4 x 200 meter swimming freestyle relay team that won gold yesterday in London. You don't remember her because she swam the prelim race that helped get the United States get to the final, then the team of Missy Franklin, Dana Vollmer, Shannon Vreeland and Allison Schmmit brought the gold medal back to the United States.
The USA earned their 12th gold medal in this event, putting them in solid second place standing ahead of Japan. They are still well behind China, who currently hold 17 gold medals and 30 overall; the United States are second at 29. China is in prominent position to win the gold medal count (they have too many favorites in multiple events), but they have a long way to go before they can feel like they're safe.
