Olympic Medal Count: U.S. Tied With China at 17 Medals

The U.S. had a strong showing today, adding a total of six medals to their trophy case - two golds, two silvers and two bronzes. They won six today compared to five for China and worked into a tie with the other Olympic powerhouse with 17 medas.

Four of the six medals came in swimming, traditionally a strong U.S. competition. The U.S. also picked a bronze in judo and a bronze in synchronized diving. China also sits at 17 medals - although the Chinese have more gold medals overall at nine compared to five for the U.S. Japan rounds out the overall top three with 11 medals.

The U.S. has a good chance to add to the total tomorrow with four swimming events for medals.
