The United States will feature a few big Arizona swimmers, with the primary one being Matt Grevers. Grevers is a big contender in the 100 meter backstroke. Grevers hails from Lake Forest, Illinois, but he tends to do most of his training in Tucson with Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics.
Grevers will probably have to face Camille Lacourt of France to try and win the 100 meter backstroke, although Grevers appears to be peaking at the right time. Grevers posted a 52.08 time at the Olympic Trials, the second fastest time ever. He is likely to be favored in this race and has spots on the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay as well as the 4 x 100 medley relay.
Here are some of the other Arizona swimmers competing at the Summer Games.
- Clark Burckle went to school in Arizona and is competing in the 200 meter breaststroke.
- Caitlin Leverenz hails from Tucson, went to school at Cal, and is a contender in both the 200 and 400 meter IM.
- Breeja Larson has a hometown of Mesa, Arizona and went to school at Texas A&M and finished in the 100 meter breaststroke.
