Tuesday night was going to be important in Arizona soccer circles, with the top professional-level clubs scheduled to play each other in the biggest city in the state.
But the Phoenix Monsoon-FC Tucson series finale set for Tuesday at the Reach 11 soccer fields complex in north Phoenix was canceled late Monday, according to a statement from FC Tucson.
↵↵There was an issue with field availability, according to the FC Tucson statement. These are both small-time clubs when it comes to pro soccer -- The Monsoon are an NPSL club, which is a step below PDL level FC Tucson, which is three leagues below Major League Soccer. But after the two new franchises played each other for the first time last Wednesday -- FCT won 4-2 at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson -- the schedule called for a second meeting Tuesday, this time in Phoenix.
↵This was a chance for folks in the Valley to see both teams and for both teams to build on their followings. FC Tucson is the highest level of pro clubs in the state. But now soccer fans will have to wait to see if the match is re-scheduled. No makeup date has been announced.
↵The Monsoon aren't scheduled for another home game until June 16, while FC Tucson is off to a 3-0-1 start in league play.
↵Here's hoping fans in the Phoenix area get to see this game.
