2012 WAC Baseball Tournament: Fresno State Forces Championship Game On Sunday

On Saturday in the WAC Baseball Tournament, the Fresno St. Bulldogs certainly stunned many of the competitors and likely plenty of the fans as they pulled off a pair of unexpected wins.

The tournament is a double-elimination format, in that it takes two losses to be sent home. No. 5 Fresno State faced No. 6 Louisiana Tech in the early game on Saturday to see who would advance to take on No. 2 Sacramento State for a chance at the title. Fresno and Louisiana had each lost once and, coincidentally, were the two teams that had handed defeats to the No. 1 seed New Mexico St. in the early going and sent the favorites packing.

Fresno State defeated Louisiana Tech by a final score of 6-4 and advanced to take on Sacramento State in the nightcap. Sac State had yet to lose a game in the tournament and knew that they would win outright by defeating the Bulldogs. Fresno State knew they could force a winner-take-all championship game on Sunday with a win and that's just what they did.

Sacramento State led 5-3 heading into the top of the seventh inning, but the Bulldogs hung a four-spot on the board in the top of that inning to take the lead and never let up as they pulled off the 9-5 victory to earn the right to play for the whole enchilada on Sunday afternoon.
