Phil Mickelson is running out of time to play catch-up at the 2012 Masters.
Mickelson has come up with three birdies after his disastrous six on the par-3 4th hole by taking advantage of the remaining par fives. He managed to birdie the par-5 8th, the par-5 13th, and the par-5 15th to get to eight-under.
An opportunity could be presenting itself though, as both Louis Oosthuizen and Bubba Watson (your current co-leaders at -10) have found the woods on the 17th hole. But Mickelson is still two back with only 16, 17, 18 to play, and he left himself with a very difficult shot on the 16th hole. He's tied with Matt Kuchar at -8 and would currently finish in a tie for 3rd, but a lot could change depending on what happens to the leaders.
Mickelson has to be wondering what things would've been like if he could just avoided at least one of those two painful triple bogeys.
