The Arizona Diamondbacks started their 2012 season powerfully, as they hit two home runs off of San Francisco Giants ace Time Lincecum in the first inning. After a leadoff single by Willie Bloomquist, Chris Young hit a ball into the left field bleachers.

It was a surprise to most that Young was batting second. he had not done so all spring. It was the second Opening Day homer run he has hit in his career. His other came in 2008.

Two outs later, Paul Goldschmidt hit a 3-1 pitch into the left field bleachers to give the D-backs a 3-0 lead. In 2011, he had success against Lincecum, netting five hits, including two HR in nine at-bats against the former Cy Young winner.

It was the first time that Lincecum had allowed an Opening Day homer, and he gave up two in the first inning.
