Arizona State Baseball Weekend Review: Sun Devils Get Swept At Oregon

The trip to the Northwest was not kind to the Arizona State baseball team as the Sun Devils lost all three games of their series against the Oregon Ducks.

Arizona State falls to 16-12 on the season and 3-6 in Pac-12 play, it was the first sweep the Sun Devils fell victim to all season. Oregon improves to 18-8 and 6-3 in the Pac-12.

After Friday's game was cancelled due to rain, the teams played a doubleheader on Saturday. Junior Brady Rodgers (4-1) delivered another dazzling performance in the first game on Saturday as he threw a complete game, only allowing four hits and one earned run. An Aaron Jones homer for the Ducks proved to be the difference in the game as the Ducks won 1-0.

The Sun Devils were stifled by Oregon right-hander Alex Keudell (3-3), who threw a complete game shutout, striking three and only allowing four Sun Devil hits.

The Arizona State bats did not wake up in the second game of the doubleheader has ASU fell 3-1. Joey DeMichele hit his fifth home run of the season and Casey Koffman collected his third multi-hit game of the season as he went 2-3.

Trevor Williams (5-2) went seven strong innings for the Sun Devils, only allowing six hits and three earned runs. Williams was out dueled by Oregon starter Jake Reed (2-2). Reed pitched seven shutout innings, only allowing five hits striking out four.

Oregon finished up the sweep on Sunday with a 4-3 victory. Down 4-1 in the top of the ninth, the Sun Devils got a two-run single by DeMichele to cut the lead to one, however the Sun Devils left the basses loaded.

Oregon once again got strong starting pitching as Brando Tessar (4-0) went 6 2/3 scoreless innings striking out six Sun Devils.

The schedule does not get any easier for the Sun Devils as they return to Packard Stadium this weekend for a series against Oregon State. The Beavers are ranked No. 22 by Baseball America and took two of three games from Washington this past weekend.
