Every year the NFL invites a select number of highly touted draft prospects to their combine in Indianapolis. Potential future NFL players are put through their paces to show teams what they are made of. But, of course, any time there are invitations given, there are snubs.
We thought two of those left out should have a chance to show their stuff so SB Nation Arizona recently held its own work out for writers Ryan Bafaloukos and Cody Ulm. We filmed the event and will be sending it along to team scouts and talent evaluators from around the league.
"These two 'athletes' don't have a chance in hell of making a team," said one NFL scout on the condition of anonymity, "But they do demonstrate by comparison what makes our players so special. These two are special as well, but in a very different way."
Cody and Ryan ran the 40-yard dash and put up very impressive (unofficial) numbers. They also ran the traditional three-cone drill and demonstrated their broad jump capabilities.
But we went a step further and had our forgotten prospects do a few more things.
Ryan and Cody ran the 40 with hoods over their heads to show teams their field awareness. We had them do the broad jump backyards to demonstrate their ability to avoid injury-causing contact. And finally, we had them demonstrate their ability to excite crowds with their touchdown celebrations.
Watch the video and tell me that these two don't belong somewhere on an NFL Draft board.
Congrats to Cody on playing hard and good luck to Ryan on putting on those extra eight to 12 inches in height.
Special thanks to Gordon Green for his help with the filming and production of this fine video.
