WGC-Accenture Match Play 2012: Scores And Recap

The 2012 WGC-Accenture Match Play knockout tournament has wrapped up its third round. In the four brackets, only two No. 1 seeds now remain. Play began with 64 of the 66 top-ranked golfers in the world, but after play on Friday, the field has been narrowed down to just eight players.

Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy are the only No. 1 seeds who have made it into the quarterfinals. Westwood knocked out his Friday opponent, Nick Watney, on a score of 3 and 2 to advance. He will face Martin Laird on Saturday. McIlroy advanced by defeating Miguel Angel Jiminez with a score of 3 and 1. He will face Sang-Moon Bae in his quarterfinal match.

Bae, an 11th seed, advanced by defeating John Senden in an upset, by going 1 up. Laird knocked out Paul Lawrie on a score of 3 and 1. Mark Wilson advanced past Dustin Johnson on 5 and 3. His opponent on Saturday will be Peter Hanson, who knocked out Brandt Snedeker on a score of 5 and 3.

The final match on Saturday will be Matt Kuchar taking on Hunter Mahan. Kuchar defeated Martin Kaymer, 4 and 3, while Mahan won out over Steve Stricker, also 4 and 3.
