The UFC continues its busy stretch of events as UFC 143 comes to Las Vegas, Nevada, this Saturday night. Former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz faces former WEC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit in the evening's main event.
Nick Diaz has been on a rollar coaster ride since rejoining the UFC midway through 2011. He was scheduled to face UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 137 last October. Following missed press events, Diaz was pulled from the card.
Diaz got a second chance when it was announced he would fight BJ Penn on the evening's co-main event. When St-Pierre was forced off the card with a knee injury, Diaz versus Penn was elevated to the main event. After punishing Penn, Diaz called out St-Pierre and the two were scheduled to fight on the UFC's annual Super Bowl weekend card in Las Vegas.
With St-Pierre out of the octagon until at least summer with a torn ACL, Diaz faces Carlos Condit for the UFC Interm Welterweight Title, with the winner getting the first shot at St-Pierre when he is healthy.
Condit has won five straight bouts since losing his UFC debut to Martin Kampmann in 2009. Condit has gone through some of the best welterweights in the UFC including: Dong Hyun Kim, Dan Hardy, Rory McDonald and Jake Ellenberger.
Fabricio Werdum returns to the UFC and will fight Roy Nelson in the co-main event of UFC 143. Werdum went 2-2 in the UFC from April, 2007 to June, 2008. Nelson has a 3-2 record inside the Octagon since winning "The Ultimate Fighter Season 10."
