NBA Scores: Lakers drop to 1-4 and bottom of the Western Conference

Wednesday was a busy night in the NBA with 13 games. The Utah Jazz knocked off the Los Angeles Lakers, dropping the Lakers to 1-4 on the season.

While the Suns were picking up a 117-110 win against the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday, there were 12 other games going on around the NBA.

With their win, the Suns avoided a 1-4 start, something the Los Angeles Lakers were not able to do. Despite 29 points from Kobe Bryant, the Lakers lost 95-86 to the Utah Jazz, dropping Los Angeles to 1-4 on the season and to the bottom of the Western Conference.

The Lakers are struggling, but the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks are not. Both teams improved to 4-1 on the season Wednesday. Dallas knocked off Detroit 109-104 while the Heat cruised to an easy 103-73 win against the Brooklyn Nets.

Other interesting action around the NBA included the Boston Celtics defeating the Washington Wizards 100-94 in overtime. Boston's stars showed up big against the Wizards:

It was a big night for three Celtics veterans. Rondo had 18 points and 14 assists, Kevin Garnett finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Paul Pierce had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

In the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Clippers handed the San Antonio Spurs their first loss of the season:

The Los Angeles Clippers manhandled the San Antonio Spurs 106-84, using a 35-21 third quarter to pull away. In a rematch of the Western Conference semifinals which San Antonio swept 4-0, the Clippers had no trouble on this night, shooting 56 percent from the field, outrebounding San Antonio 45-28, and forcing 20 Spurs turnovers.
