NFL Week 9, Monday night pick against the spread: Saints should continue Eagles' woes

The Philadelphia Eagles' season will have officially reached critical mass should they lose to the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.

The Philadelphia Eagles have lost three straight games. Quarterback Michael Vick is struggling to not turn the ball over. Defensive coordinator Juan Castillo was fired, and coach Andy Reid is on the hot seat in a city where patience for lack of success hardly exists. And now, the Eagles go to New Orleans hoping to turn things around.

It's tough to see that happening. The Saints are a lowly 2-5, but are three-point favorites and should be able to find some holes in the Eagles' defense. And if they get any kind of pass rush on Vick, the fumbles and/or interceptions could follow.

This game is tremendous for the Eagles as they hope to stay in range of the NFC East leader, the New York Giants. Everyone knows Philly has the players on both sides of the ball to win, and that the Saints' defense is porous.

Sure, the Eagles are kings of the road on Monday night: They are 11-2 against the spread in the last 13 Monday night games they have played as visitors, and 7-2 against the Saints in the last nine games against them.

So if a lot of signs point to the Eagles having success, they do. But this is just one of those games where the Saints might have caught reeling Philly at a good time, and even if their defense doesn't hold up, Drew Brees should put up the points to lead the Saints to victory.
