Friday's Arizona Fall League slate was highlighted by a pair of close games, including the Peoria Javelinas improving to a league-best 13-9 on the season.
Peoria fell behind early to the Mesa Solar Sox, but stormed back with five runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth, going on to a 7-5 victory. San Diego Padres right fielder Rymer Liriano led the way for Peoria, collecting three hits including a home run while driving in three runs. Phillies prospect Kyle Simon, who started and threw three innings, got the win with Bobby LaFramboise of Seattle's system getting the save.
In the other close game of the day, the Phoenix Desert Dogs edged out a 3-1 victory over the Surprise Saguaros with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Tampa Bay's Chris Rearick got the victory on the hill for Phoenix while the New York Mets' Greg Peavey took the loss for Surprise.
Finally, the Scottsdale Scorpions beat the Salt River Rafters 9-2. Zach Nuding from the Yankees' system went four innings, giving up two runs, to take the win for Scottsdale. Left fielder Tyler Hold from Cleveland's system led the Scottsdale offense with three RBI on a pair of hits.
Saturday's only action is the AFL Rising Stars Game between the East and West at 5:10 p.m. PT. Regular play returns on Monday.
