2012 bowl projections: ASU in New Mexico, Arizona to Vegas

Both Pac-12 teams in Arizona will be bowling this year; the only question now is where.

Not only did the Arizona State Sun Devils dismantle the Washington State Cougars last weekend, they also made themselves bowl-eligible with the win. It gets a big monkey off their back as they look towards their rival, the Arizona Wildcats in the annual Duel in the Desert this weekend.

Both teams are bowl-eligible, so will be playing for bragging rights rather than denying the other team the postseason. As of now, SB Nation's bowl projections have the Sun Devils in the New Mexico Bowl and the Wildcats in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Arizona State would be the first Pac-12 school to appear in the New Mexico Bowl's six-year history. Last year, the Temple Owls beat the Wyoming Cowboys 37-15. The Wildcats have appeared in the Las Vegas Bowl once, upsetting the BYU Cougars 31-21 in the 2008 edition of the game. The Wildcats scored 21 unanswered points in that game to take the lead in the second half.
