Thursday night was a busy evening for Major League baseball.
The Detroit Tigers finished off their sweep of the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series with a dominant 8-1 win, and the St. Louis Cardinals went up 3-1 on the San Francisco Giants with a 8-3 victory.
The Tigers, who won their series against the Yankees by a combined run margin of 19-6, can now sit back and wait to see who their opponent will be in this year's World Series as the Cardinals and Giants finish their series. St. Louis and San Francisco get back in action Friday night with an 8:30 ET first pitch from Busch Stadium. The game will be televised by FOX.
Former Arizona Diamondback mangers Buck Showalter (Baltimore Orioles) and Bob Melvin (Oakland Athletics), as well as former players Stephen Drew (Oakland), Joe Saunders (Baltimore) and Mark Reynolds (Baltimore), were eliminated during the American League Division Series.
