NFL Picks, Week 3: Patriots Overvalued; Cam Newton Still Getting Dissed

For NFL Week 3 we will look at the lines and spreads coming out of vegas and share our picks with you. This group of picks covers the Sunday morning games. We'll be back on Friday with our Sunday afternoon, evening and Monday night picks against the spread. Don't forget to join our Pick 'Em league: (ID: 55411, PW: arizona):

We'll start things off with the locks and even one upset. Before we start throwing your tomatoes all the way from Bean Town, just remember how many yards your team has given up.

Locks of the Week

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills (+9): The Bills look like they might be legit but the Pats are too legit to...OK, we'll quit. But on the road with the Pats horrible pass defense we think this line is just too high. Let's call it our upset of the week, shall we? Pick: Bills

Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings (+4): This is another line that baffles us. The Vikings are suck while the Loins have been seriously impressive and yet only four points? Easy. Pick: Lions

Jacksonville Jaguars at Carolina Panthers (-3.5): Cam Newton is only a 3.5 point favorite over the Jaguars AT HOME. Do these guys in Vegas even watch football? Pick: Panthers

Other picks we made but don't feel great about:

San Francisco 49ers at Cincinnati Bengals (-1): The line here tells us all we need to know. If we had a choice we'd avoid making a pick on this game but we don't so we'll go with the home team to win and Alex Smith to not win. Pick: Bengals

Miami Dolphins at Cleveland Browns (-2.5): I remember the days when this meant Dan Marino vs. Bernie Kosar. It was a good time before the name "Bernie' was ruined forever by a really bad series of movies. "Dan" is still a generic enough name to have survived which is good. Once again faced with a tight line and two yuck teams we will go with the home crowd. Pick: Browns

Houston Texans at New Orleans Saints (-5.5): This feels like a the right line. The Saints at home are better than the Texans but we're not yet convinced they are that much better. But 5.5 is still a wuss line so we're going with Nola by a touchdown. Pick: Saints

Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants ( n/a): No line on this game until we find out how much Michael Vicks head is still attached to his shoulders. Check back later on this one once Vegas sets the spread. Pick: Will Have To Wait

Denver Broncos at Tennessee Titans (-7.5): This line opened at 4.5 but was bet up in part, we think, as an over reaction to the Tennessee win over the Ravens. Let's not forget that Matt Hasselbeck is still the quarterback for the Titans. Then again, maybe it's probably time for Chris Johnson to finally get going. Pick: Titans
