Prince Amukamara Injury, Broken Foot Will Need Surgery

Prince Amukamara, the New York Giants first round pick and former Apollo High School (Glendale, AZ) star, left his second practice of training camp with a broken foot. According to a team announcement, Amukamara broke the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot and will require surgery.

Amukamara was the last rookie in his class to sign his NFL contract and due to his holdout had only just started training camp with the Giants. It's not yet known how the injury occurred or how long he will be out but it could be several months.

According to the Newark Star-Ledger's Zach Berman, "There was nothing apparent about the play when the injury occurred. He walked out of the training complex on his own power with a member of the Giants' medical staff."

This is a tough blow for the local kid known for his speed and talent. He is generally considered the second best cornerback in the 2011 NFL Draft behind the Arizona Cardinals Patrick Peterson who was picked third overall. Many people were surprised Amukamara fell to the Giants at the 19 slot and the New York fans were thrilled to get him.
