ASU Basketball Recruiting: Calaen Robinson Commits To Sun Devils

The Arizona St. Sun Devils picked up a key commitment today when point guard Calaen Robinson decided to sign up for the 2012 recruiting class. It's always nice to see a local kid end up at a local school--Robinson hails from Corona Del Sol right in Tempe. Robinson also had offers from Weber State and Saint Mary's, but ended up going with the Devils and joins Kenny Martin and Eric Jacobsen in Herb Sendek's class. Josh Gershon of Scout broke the original story (UPDATE: ASUDevils.com, the Arizona State Rivals site, apparently broke the story first.)

When you watch Robinson on tape, one thing becomes pretty clear--his dominant hand is his left hand. He does a nice job using both hands, but he seems to be generally finish with the left. Robinson is also a bit lanky, so he'll probably have to add a little weight on. He generally seems to be able to get to the basket, so it's unclear how good his mid-range jumper is. He might need to develop some intermediary moves between the three point shot and the drive and finish layup.

Also, check out this recent interview with Robinson at the Magic Memorial Day Tournament at CSU Dominguez. Robinson claims his strengths are his work ethic and his defense, while he needs to improve overall strength and his ability to finish with his right hand.
