Bryan Shaw On Getting First Major League Call-Up

Shaw, a 23-year-old right-handed reliever, is the latest addition to the Diamondbacks roster, called up Friday from AAA Reno.

↵

He said he was waiting in a hotel lobby in Colorado Spring, Colo., to get his room assignment when Shaw got the word that he’d been called up.

↵

What happened next? Nothing, for a couple of hours while Shaw sat around in his room, unable to tell anyone but his wife and parents the good news. Then Shaw caught his plane to Florida.

↵

His wife and parents quickly made plans to go to Florida, where the D-backs are playing the Marlins this weekend.

↵

Scouting report on Shaw, by Shaw: "Mainly cutter, slider, curve ball."

↵

Shaw was a reliever at Long Beach State for three years and is the 13th former Dirtbag in the majors this season alone.

↵

"We've seen him over the last couple of years at spring training and he's thrown the ball well in the minor-leagues, except for he had one hiccup at Triple A, " manager Kirk Gibson said. "Just changes the makeup of our bullpen a little bit."
