The draw for post positions for the 2011 Kentucky Derby were announced on Wednesday. Position matters in the horse racing game but it really depends on the profile of the pony. Our favorite horse in the field (based on name alone), Archarcharch, drew the inside rail position.
For Lookin At Lucky, the rail position was the kiss of death in last year's race. But according to the fine folks at And Down The Stretch They Come the draw might not be so bad for this year's no.1 position horse.
Archarcharch is on the rail but he's not a horse that has to be out of the gate quickly (and Brilliant Speed is a stone-cold closer, so he should be able to out-break him in the first 1/2 furlong). It's not an optimum spot to start from, but he should fair better than Lucky did last year.
Here are the Kentucky Derby post draw results:
No. 1: Archarcharch
No. 2: Brilliant Speed
