NCAA College Baseball Tournament 2011: ASU Hosts Regional, Arizona Draws #2 Seed

The 2011 NCAA Divison I Baseball Championship Bracket was released in full today, and both ASU and Arizona have been given favorable seeds.

The Sun Devils are hosting the Tempe Regional after a strong 39-16 regular season. They will take on the New Mexico Lobos (20-39), who snuck into the tournament after upsetting TCU in the Mountain West Conference tournament.

Arizona (36-19), on the other hand, drew a #2 seed and will travel to College Station, Texas to play Seton Hall (33-23) on Friday. The Wildcats will likely have to defeat talented Texas A&M (42-18) in order to make it to a Super Regional.

Regionals are set up in a double-elimination format, with the eventual champion having to win three games in order to advance to the next weekend of play.

Should the Sun Devils win the Tempe Regional, they would advance to play the winner of the Austin Regional (Texas, Texas State, Kent State, Princeton). ASU would travel to Texas if the Longhorns advanced, while the Sun Devils would host a Super Regional if any other team won that regional.

Arizona would take on the winner of the Tallahassee Regional (Florida State, Central Florida, Alabama, Bethune-Cookman).

Super Regionals are best-of-three matchups, with the winner heading to Omaha for the College World Series.

The Arizona State Sun Devil baseball team will travel to Austin, Texas for a Super Regional match-up with the Texas Longhorns. The Sun Devils swept the Tempe Regional, winning all three games at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark to advance to Super Regionals. Texas, the #7 National Seed, defeated Kent State on Monday afternoon to win the Austin Regional and advance to Super Regionals.

The Super Regional will get underway on Friday, June 10. All three games will begin at 4 p.m. Arizona time from UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin.
