Kentucky Derby Odds, Schedule And Best Name In The Field

The 137th running of the Kentucky Derby is just a few days away and you know what that means, betting time. The latest Vegas odds are out via and we've got them here for you as well. But first, before you get your gambling on, there's a couple of items of business.

The first is the TV schedule. Here it is:

4-5 p.m. ET: Derby Classics on Versus
5-6 p.m. ET: Derby Post Position Draw on Versus

4-5 p.m. ET: Derby Classics on Versus
5-6 p.m. ET: Derby Access on Versus

4-5 p.m. ET: Derby Classics on Versus
5-6 p.m. ET: 137th Kentucky Derby Oaks on Versus

4-5 p.m. ET: Kentucky Derby Red Carpet Special on NBC
5-7 p.m. ET: The 137th Kentucky Derby on NBC

The next item of house keeping is a little thing we like to call "Best Name in the Field". Horse names are pretty much the second-best part of the Kentucky Derby right behind gambling and drinking. OK, so make that the third best thing.

Here's our picks for the 2011 Best Name in the Field:

Best Name: Archarcharch

Archarcharch is the son of a horse called Arch. So obviously the extra arch is to add speed? vigor? stud fees?

Actually, the horse's owner said it's all a big joke.

"We just tried to pick a name that people would remember and the announcers would have fun with, just something catchy that people wouldn't forget."

Runners up for the Best Name award in the 2011 Kentucky Derby are Comma to the Top and Nehro. Being writers, we obviously love the literary references. It's as if these ponies were named just for us.

Finally, here's the Derby odds:

  1. Dialed In 3/1
  2. Uncle Mo 4/1
  3. Nehro 8/1
  4. Archarcharch 10/1
